Philodendron melanochrysum #1
Philodendron melanochrysum - a real sprinter. This fast-growing species of Philodendron comes from tropical South America and belongs to the family of Araceae.
The special feature of this rare houseplant is its velvety leaves. These have an intense orange hue at the beginning of their growth, which slowly turns into a dark, rich green. This characteristic gives the plant its second nickname: Black Gold.
The heart-shaped leaves are adorned by the lime-green leaf veins and can even grow over 40 cm long.
Care
To make the exotic climbing plant feel at home in your home, you should definitely provide it with a climbing pole. In nature, the Philodendron melanochrysum grows on huge jungle trees. In addition to commercially available vine sticks, homemade ones made of Sphagnum moss are also suitable.
For this special tropical plant you should choose a bright, but never full-sun place. It is not used to direct light by nature.
The Philodendron loves high humidity and, according to its home, warm temperatures between 21° and 25° Celsius.
The substrate should always be nice and airy, loose and evenly moist. The Philodendron dislikes waterlogging just as much as dryness, which is why it is necessary to regularly check whether the upper layers of the soil are still sufficiently supplied with water or are already dry. This can be easily checked by touch and feel. To do this, dig your finger a few centimeters deep into the soil. If you don't feel any moisture, it's time to water again.
